The 2002 Australian Nations Cup Championship was CAMS sanctioned Australian motor racing title open to GT type cars complying with both Group 3E Series Production Car regulations as published by CAMS and Nations Cup regulations as published by Procar Australia. The title, which was the third Australian Nations Cup Championship, was won by Jim Richards driving a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. After winning the Nations Cup in 2000 and 2001 in his Porsche GT3 Clubsport, Jim Richards was one of five buyers of a new 2002-spec Porsche GT3 Cup Car for the new season. As it turned out, Richards claimed one of the most unlikely championship victories. His Porsche was simply outgunned by Geoff Morgan’s Viper, John Bowe’s Ferrari and Paul Stokell’s Lamborghini, however reliability and solid results brought Richars through to win the championship. Richards did not win a single race throughout the whole season until the last round on the Gold Coast where he secured pole position and went on to win all three races. This meant Richards was able to turn a 17-point deficit into a 34-point championship win, racking up 1211 points to Morgan’s 1177 points. The car then went on to actively compete until 2013 while passing through a small selection of owners. In 2022 it participated at the Phillip Island Classic with Tim Blanchard at the wheel. Also includes its original CAMS logbook and an extensive list of spares. Please contact one of our friendly staff to make an appoint to view this car at our Kogarah showroom.
